Hydrangeas at Matsuyama City Park in Full Bloom|June 8, 2025
Although the weather was alternating between rain and clear skies, I felt that this was exactly the kind of day when I should go see hydrangeas. So I went to see the hydrangeas at Matsuyama City Park.
As I walked through Sakura Hill, I found Hime Hydrangeas blooming near the restroom. Beautiful hydrangeas in pale light blue and pale purple.
This is the area around the restroom on Sakura Hill. If you climb the stairs right in front of the restroom entrance (on the right side of the photo) and walk for a few dozen seconds, you can see many more hydrangeas.
By the way, the restroom is clean and flush-type. I decided to use the restroom first before taking my time to enjoy the hydrangeas.
There is a vending machine next to the restroom entrance, which is convenient. I didn't use it today, but it's nice to be able to easily buy a drink if you need hydration.
I climbed these stairs in front of the restroom and headed toward the Hydrangea Garden.
I could see it even before climbing the stairs, but at the top there was a bench, and behind it was an information board with photos explaining the different hydrangea varieties.
The information board displayed photos of 12 varieties: American Hydrangea, Uzuhydrangea, Lacecap Hydrangea, Oakleaf Hydrangea, Kiyosumi Sawahydrangea, Christmas, Shichidanka, Sumidanohanabi, Hime Hydrangea, Benigaku Hydrangea, Yakushima Hydrangea, and Mountain Hydrangea. Thinking about being able to enjoy so many varieties made me really excited.
I wasn't sure whether this was a Lacecap Hydrangea or a Mountain Hydrangea, but probably a Lacecap. The buds were just beginning to bloom, so I'll have to come back again another day!
Annabelle hydrangeas were also blooming. (Annabelle is also known as American Hydrangea or Western Hydrangea.)
Beautiful white Annabelle hydrangeas.
The softly colored pale purple Hime Hydrangeas and pale blue Hime Hydrangeas were blooming beautifully, and behind them, small hydrangeas were blooming modestly, which was also charming.
The sight of many Hime Hydrangeas blooming in various colors--pale purple, pale blue, light reddish purple, deep reddish purple--was beautiful.

I'm certain that the hydrangeas at Matsuyama City Park were at their peak bloom on June 8, 2025, but they were so beautiful that I want to come back again in about a week.
